Police and the coastguard took calls from the public just before 2100 GMT on Friday reporting that a car had been driven off the quay at Porthleven. A major rescue operation was launched involving a helicopter, fire crews, the RNLI, the coastguard, the harbourmaster and the police and ambulance service. A harbour crane pulled the car out and the man was taken to the Royal Cornwall Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The man has not been named but locals say he came from Porthleven. An investigation is being held into the death. No other vehicles are thought to have been involved. Police are appealing for witnesses to contact them. |
