A woman has been rescued from a flat in the south side of Glasgow after someone broke into a neighbouring tenement and set it alight. Emergency services were called to the fire in the ground-floor flat in Kenmure Street, Pollokshields, at 1045 GMT on Wednesday. The block was evacuated and a woman rescued from a second-floor flat. Police are trying to establish a motive for the attack and have asked anyone with information to contact them. Det Sgt David Stewart, of Strathclyde Police, said: "Police are treating the cause of the fire as wilful. We have yet to establish a motive for this crime. The premises have been extensively damaged and the cost of repair is unknown. "I would appeal to anyone who was in the area of Kenmure Street and saw anyone behaving in a suspicious manner, either around the time of the incident or during the previous day or evening to contact us." It is not yet known when the residents will be able to return to their homes. |
