One injured as police car crashes Police and family hurt in crash
(about 9 hours later)
At least one person has been injured after a crash between a police car and another vehicle on the M621 near Leeds. Two police officers and a family of five have been treated in hospital after a police car and another vehicle collided on the M621 near Leeds.
The cars collided on the eastbound carriageway at around 1345 GMT on Christmas Day, causing two lanes to close near junction one and delays. West Yorkshire Police said a Vauxhall Astra was in collision with the rear of a police car on the hard shoulder of the motorway.
West Yorkshire Police would not confirm if the injured person was a police officer but said the injuries were not thought to be life-threatening. None of those hurt, including three children, suffered serious injuries.
The driver of the other car has been arrested for motoring offences. The driver of the Astra has been arrested and police are now appealing for witnesses.
The crash happened on the eastbound carriageway of the M621 at around 1345 GMT on Christmas Day.
Two lanes subsequently had to be closed near junction one of the motorway, causing delays.
'High-speed impact"
A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said officers in a marked car noticed the Astra behind them.
"The police vehicle pulled on to the hard shoulder of the carriageway where the Astra collided into the rear of the vehicle," he said.
"The high-speed impact shunted the police vehicle some considerable distance along the carriageway and into the central reservation."
The driver, who is believed to be from Scotland, has been arrested on suspicion of motoring offences.
