Quarry death 'a tragic accident'
(about 6 hours later) | |
The death of a teenager, whose body was found at a County Antrim quarry, has been described as a "terribly tragic and unfortunate accident" by an MLA.
Paul Hazzard's body was found at the quarry on Deerfin Road in Ballymena at about 1205 GMT on Boxing Day.
Police have said they are not treating the 19-year-old's death as suspicious.
Local SDLP MLA Declan O'Loan said all families around Ballymena would be "very conscious of the loss" that the Hazzard family has suffered.
"For a young person to lose their life in tragic circumstances at any time is terrible - at Christmas it's particularly poignant.
"I think the heart of the whole community will be with the Hazzard family and what they are going through," Mr O'Loan said.
The police have said that no more information was available about the death at this stage.
Prayers were said for the teenager and his family at Sunday Mass in the town.
It is understood that Mr Hazzard had been dropped off by a taxi on his way to a friend's house on the night he died.
He was to walk the rest of the way, but did not show up.
Tributes from his friends have appeared on his page on the social networking site Bebo.
One described him as "young and full of life". |
