Three airlifted in Snowdon rescue

Three people have been airlifted to safety by an RAF helicopter in two separate rescues in Snowdonia.

Ogwen Mountain Rescue Team was called out to help a man on Y Garn who had broken his ankle on Monday.

In a second incident, a woman suffered a suspected broken ankle and a man received cuts to his face when they fell while walking on Tryfan.

The Ogwen Mountain Rescue Team have been called out a record 131 times so far this year, double that of 2008.

The man who broke his ankle was aged in his 40s and is believed to be local to Snowdonia.

He was flown to hospital at Bangor by an RAF air sea rescue helicopter based at Valley on Anglesey.

At dusk on Monday, a man and woman, both aged 23 and from Stockport in Cheshire, were saved after tumbling on Tryfan.

Rescuers said they were walking down an eroded path when the man fell 150ft (45.7m). The woman then slipped 50ft (15.2m).

The woman able to dial 999 from her mobile phone and the couple was helped by a woman walker from Prestatyn.

The man had cuts to the head and leg, while the woman had a suspected broken ankle.

Both were flown to Glan Clwyd Hospital, Bodelwyddan.
