Police were called to reports of a man in the water at Walton-on-Thames just before 1845 GMT on Monday. Two officers located the man in the river near Felix Road and tried to rescue him, Surrey Police said. Emergency teams tried to resuscitate the man before he was taken to St Peter's Hospital, Chertsey, but was pronounced dead just after 2100 GMT. A woman in her 30s has been arrested and is being held in custody. Appeal to anglers Detectives are investigating how the man, who has not yet been identified, came to enter the water. It is thought he entered the river near an area of parkland and football pitches off Felix Road, which is near the Thames Path. Officers have appealed for witnesses to come forward, especially anglers and dog walkers who might have been in the area. They particularly want to speak to people who might have seen a man and a woman together in the area between 1715 and 1840 GMT. Police said a post-mortem examination would be carried out later on Tuesday. |
