Police were called at 1011 GMT to the terraced property in Church Hill, close to the main High Street.
Det Insp Darren Rawlings, of Hampshire Constabulary, said officers had been met with a "very traumatic" scene.
Officers attempted to resuscitate the girl, but she was pronounced dead a short time later.
Mr Rawlings said the shooting had taken place as the woman dropped the four-year-old off at her former family home.
He said the couple had split up about four weeks ago and investigators were not looking for anyone else.
The shooting happened at about 1000 GMT at the house in Church Hill
Mr Rawlings said: "This is a tragic death of a four-year-old child.
"We need to find out why this has happened and exactly what happened in the premises this morning."
The detective added: "At this stage the evidence would suggest it was a domestic incident.
"The person in the house has discharged a firearm. We are not seeking anyone else at the moment."
Police recovered a firearm from the property. And a red people-carrier vehicle used by the woman was later removed from the scene.
A large cordon remains in place around the end-of-terrace house just off the main High Street into the town.
Officers also shut off access to Aldershot Manor Park, which is opposite the property. | Officers also shut off access to Aldershot Manor Park, which is opposite the property. |
