A security alert in south Armagh is disrupting cross-border traffic. A security alert in south Armagh which was disrupting cross-border traffic has ended, the police have said.
The A1 Newry Road is currently closed between Cloghogue and Jonesborough following reports of a suspicious vehicle in the area. An Army bomb disposal team was sent to examine a vehicle parked under a bridge on the A1 near Newry and a number of items were removed for examination.
It is understood the vehicle at the centre of the alert is parked under a bridge. The stretch of road between Cloghogue and Jonesborough which was closed during the alert has now re-opened.
An Army bomb disposal team was sent to the scene to examine it. Police praised locals for their patience during the alert.
