The 14-year-old had been walking along Castleton Avenue off the York Road when he was approached by five men, one armed with a stick. | |
The boy ran away into the Dunmore area where he was assaulted in the garden of a house close to a petrol station. | |
He was taken to hospital with injuries to his face, head and back, which are not believed to be life-threatening. It happened at about 2130 GMT on Tuesday. | |
Police have appealed for witnesses. |
