A party spokesperson said DUP chief whip Maurice Morrow has stated the transfer of powers would not happen in the lifetime of this assembly. Sinn Fein said the British and Irish governments must now act as guarantors of the St Andrew's Agreement. On Tuesday, NI Secretary Shaun Woodward said the British and Irish governments were optimistic about the issue. Mr Woodward was speaking after meeting Irish foreign minister Micheal Martin at Hillsborough on Tuesday. Sinn Fein wants to see immediate devolution of policing powers but the DUP has said it must be conditional on "community confidence". |
