Version 0 of 1.

Multiple rockets have been fired at the site of the future US consulate in the west Afghan city of Herat.

At least three rockets were fired at the building, a former hotel, with one hitting it and others landing nearby.

The building's windows were shattered but no-one was injured in the attack, according to a deputy provincial police chief, Rahmatullah Sediqi.

As the gateway to Iran, Herat is a city of key importance to Afghan officials and has been comparatively peaceful.

It provides the bulk of legitimate customs revenue to the government.

Two buildings in the city were leased by the US government in 2009 as part of its strategy to bolster its diplomatic presence beyond the capital, Kabul, though no diplomats have yet been stationed at the attacked site.
