"Our intention will be to distribute that salt on a priority basis to local authorities across Wales.
"We all know the weather forecast for this evening, particularly for the south of Wales, is likely to prove very difficult."

Mr Jones said the assembly government would do "whatever is necessary to keep Wales moving and ensure that essential services are still able to operate".
"This cold spell is also particularly difficult for older people and I would ask everyone to be neighbourly and check on elderly and vulnerable relatives and neighbours to see how they are coping during this cold spell," he added.

Deputy first minister and transport minister, Ieuan Wyn Jones, said he was satisfied that there were sufficient stocks of gritting salt to deal with the current cold weather conditions.
