Pair hunted after street attack Pair accused of attempted murder
(1 day later)
Police launched an attempted murder investigation after a 64-year-old man was attacked in a street. A man and a woman have appeared in court charged with attempted murder following an incident in Annan.
Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary said the man was set upon at 2230 GMT on Saturday in Annan by a man and a woman with Irish accents. William Atcheson, 40, of Latimer Road, and Yvonne Fitzner, 29, of Thorburn Crescent, both Annan, appeared in private at Dumfries Sheriff Court.
The victim sustained serious head injuries and is in hospital, where he was described as "serious but stable". They were on a petition alleging that they hit a man repeatedly on the head and body with a hammer at a garden in Charles Street on Saturday night.
The assailants made off after the attack in the town's Charles Street through Newington Park. No plea was made and the pair were remanded in custody.
The male suspect was about 6ft, of medium build and was wearing a dark coloured hooded top and scarf covering his face.
The woman was 5ft 8in, slim, with blonde shoulder-length hair, light coloured trousers and walked with a limp.
