Mrs Stead, who had recently married her husband John, was returning home from one of her two jobs - cleaning at a dental surgery - when the accident happened.
Her neighbour, Donna Smith, 31, said: "Paula was a bubbly, happy-go-lucky person. We were like sisters."
Elizabeth Bowman, head teacher of Southmoor Community School, where Mrs Stead also worked as a dinner lady, said she would be "missed by everyone".
"She was a valued, hard-working member of the team, and [she will be missed] by the children because she was always smiling with a friendly word for everyone."
