Police said the woman confronted the man when she saw him in the driver's seat of her MG parked in Prestt Grove, Worsley Mesnes at about 1620 GMT. As she walked to the front of the car, the thief drove at her, knocked her down and drove off in the car. The woman suffered serious head injuries in the collision and is being being treated at Wigan Royal Infirmary. Greater Manchester Police said her condition was "critical". 'Shocking incident' Officers have appealed for anyone who has seen the yellow MG, registration AK53 WNW, to call police. Prestt Grove and Cornwallis Road have been closed while officers deal with the incident. Det Ch Insp Robert Tonge, of Greater Manchester Police, said: "This is a shocking incident in which a car thief has deliberately driven at a woman. "She went on to the car bonnet and suffered a serious head injury. Whoever did this is clearly reckless and potentially dangerous so we need the public's help to catch him. "It's quite a distinctive vehicle so we really need to hear from anyone who knows of this car's whereabouts." |
