Man in court over car murder bid

A man has appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court charged with attempted murder following a car crash in the city.

Douglas Fraser, 39, of Edinburgh, was alleged to have attacked a man to his severe injury and permanent impairment on Portobello Road on 2 December.

He was also accused of failing to stop and report an accident and attempting to defeat the ends of justice.

He made a brief appearance from custody in private before Sheriff Kathrine Mackie and made no plea or declaration.

Fraser's case was continued and was released on bail.

The victim was found with serious injuries in Portobello Road, near Piershill Square East.
