Det Supt Orr said officers were trying to establish if the car had been stolen for the murder, where it had been kept and how long it had been bearing cloned plates. Det Supt Orr said the suspects removed the car's registration plates before setting it alight and officers wanted to trace them.
He added: "I have no doubt that there are people out there who know who was involved in this crime and have reservations about coming forward. He added: "As a result of our enquiries, we now believe that Kevin Carroll had attended at Asda because he had a pre-arranged meeting with another individual. We also believe that the meeting took place prior to him being shot.
"I would urge them to do so without delay as it is vital that these killers are arrested and brought to justice. "I would urge that individual to speak to police. He may have vital information which would assist our enquiries.
"There was an alarming degree of recklessness in the execution of this attack and although I have stated previously that the victim was clearly targeted, there is no doubt that someone standing nearby could have been injured."
