A man who died after being found injured on a Sunderland street had suffered a single stab wound, a post mortem examination has revealed.

Keith Redpath was discovered on Tower Street West in Hendon with a chest wound early on Saturday.

It is believed the 46-year-old was attacked inside his home in the street before making his way outside.

Four men aged between 18 and 34 are being questioned in connection with the murder inquiry.

Police said that a number of people had forced their way into his bungalow after damaging the front door.

'Much-loved'

He managed to leave through the back door and collapsed in the street outside, where he was found by a passer-by.

His large screen television was taken from the property and police later recovered one matching its description nearby.

Police were called to Tower Street West by paramedics

His son Callum, 20, of Ryhope, near Sunderland, appealed for anyone with information to contact police.

He said: "My dad was a much-loved, lovely man, and we all cared deeply about him.

"He was a great dad. He was a decent, hard-working family man and a loving father."

Police said Mr Redpath was a roofer but had been unable to work recently due to ill health.

He lived alone in Hendon after moving from Ryhope two months ago.

Anyone who heard or saw anything suspicious, including a television being carried through the streets, has been urged to contact Northumbria Police.
