A woman has died and a 10-year-old boy has been critically injured in a suspected arson attack at a bungalow near the Cornish resort of Newquay. A 10-year-old boy and a woman have died following a suspected arson attack at a bungalow in Cornwall.
The woman's 47-year-old husband has been detained by police and is being treated for his injuries in hospital. The woman, believed to be in her 40s, was found dead at the property in the Trevarrian area of Newquay. The boy was taken to hospital where he later died.
Emergency services were called to the fire in the Trevarrian area in the early hours. The woman's 47-year-old husband, who is also the boy's father, was detained by police and is being treated for his injuries in hospital in Bristol.
Fire crews from Newquay and St Columb dealt with the incident which is being investigated by police.

A Devon and Cornwall police spokesman said: "It was reported that two people were still in the property at the time. Fire crews from Newquay and St Columb were called after the fire broke out at about 0600 BST.
"A 10-year-old boy was removed from the fire and was taken to Treliske Hospital where his condition is thought to be serious. The boy was found in a serious condition and taken to the Royal Cornwall Hospital where he died.
"A woman, believed to be in her 40s, was found dead at the scene. His father was taken to the same hospital before being transferred to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol.
"A male suspect was detained shortly afterwards by police and was taken to Treliske Hospital to be treated for his injuries thought to be from the fire. Police said they were carrying out a "major investigation".
"Police are now closing down the scene for a full forensic examination and this is the start of a major investigation."
