For Labour, Schools Secretary Ed Balls called the Tories' proposals an "airbrushed re-announcement of existing policies". Mr Cameron said the existing Teach First scheme - which aims to get "exceptional graduates" working in "challenging" secondary schools - had to be widened to include institutions placed in "special measures". This is currently not permitted.
While Mr Cameron said that the existing Teach First scheme discouraged graduates from working in problem schools, Mr Balls said it was in fact "exclusively focused" on doing that.
