Snow returns as temperature falls Heavy snow back in parts of Wales

Snow has started to fall again in parts of mid and south Wales as rain arriving from the west meets a cold front. Heavy snow has returned to parts of eastern Wales again forcing some schools to close and making driving conditions hazardous.
A Met Office warning of heavy snow in Powys and south eastern Wales is in place, and some snow has fallen overnight on higher ground. There is a Met Office severe warning of heavy snow affecting a strip of the country heading north from the M4 in Monmouthshire to the north east.
The south Wales valleys, Powys, Monmouthshire and north Wales could get between five and 10cm (two to four inches), particularly on higher ground. Forecasters say two to five cm (one to two inches) is due with five to 10 cm (two to four inches) on higher ground.
So far, a handful of Torfaen schools and one in Powys are closed. A handful of schools in Powys and Torfaen are closed because of the snow.
Last week, snow caused over 750 schools across Wales to close, while many roads were also closed. The warning of snow extends across the south Wales valleys, Powys, Monmouthshire and north Wales.
BBC Wales weather forecaster Derek Brockway said rain was more likely along coastal parts of west, south and north Wales but it would be a cold day in most parts. Roads in some areas are reported to be difficult for drivers because of falling snow.
Snow is sticking
On the A525 at Pen y Stryt in Denbighshire drivers are being warned of hazardous conditions, and there is also snow at Bwlchgwyn in Wrexham.
Further south, it is snowing heavily in the eastern Brecon Beacons, at Crickhowell and Abergavenny, and snow-ploughs are out on the Llangattock escarpment keeping the road clear.
Roads are also reported to be treacherous at the top of the Rhondda valleys
However, the A465 Heads of the Valleys road is clear and no snow is sticking to the road surfaces in Ebbw Vale or Merthyr Tydfil.
Schools in Torfaen, south Wales are being affected, with six shutting. One school in Powys is also closed.
