A fugitive who taunted police by updating his Facebook page while on the run from an open prison in Suffolk has been sentenced to six months.

Craig Lynch, 28, was given the jail term at Woolwich Crown Court for one count of escaping from lawful custody.

He absconded from Hollesley Bay Prison near Woodbridge in September and was arrested in Kent on 12 January.

He was serving seven years for aggravated burglary and while on the run had 40,000 followers on Facebook.

He posted messages, including one on Christmas Day, which said: "Wow it really is xmas ha ha i cant believe i made it."

Lynch was belittled by some angry internet users who tried to encourage him to hand himself in after almost four months on the run.

Posts from people rejoicing in his capture were added shortly before the page was taken down.
