Japan's Empress Michiko is ill with symptoms of internal bleeding, the Japanese news agency Kyodo has reported. Japan's Empress Michiko has fallen ill with symptoms linked to psychological stress, the Imperial Household Agency has said.
The 72-year-old empress has fallen ill with "symptoms of bleeding in the intestines," Kyodo quoted the Imperial Household Agency as saying. The 72-year-old empress had "bleeding in the intestines" as well as other ailments, Kyodo news service quoted the agency as saying.
It is not known how serious her condition is. She will take a short break from her duties to recuperate.

The empress fell ill with a cold on 19 February, the agency said, and had not felt well since then.
As well as intestinal bleeding, she had also suffered from "oral inflammation and nasal bleeding", Kyodo quoted an agency official as saying.
Her daughter-in-law, Princess Masako, has been suffering from a stress-related illness for several years.
She has been seen in public only rarely since late 2003 after suffering from what the palace calls an "adjustment disorder".
