Police and animal welfare officers have begun an investigation into allegations of animal cruelty at a farm in County Down.

The USPCA were called to the farm on Edentrillick Road outside Hillsborough by a member of the public on Friday.

It is understood one animal had to be destroyed.

USPCA spokesman Stephen Philpott said his charity was recommending a prosecution for animal cruelty.

He added: "We will refer some of our findings to other agencies and we would expect the farm to be visited by them to put it into the shape it should be in."
