A prison officer has been injured during a disturbance at Addiewell Prison in West Lothian. A prison officer was taken to hospital with head and facial injuries after a large-scale disturbance broke out at Scotland's newest prison.
Kaylx, the company which runs the private jail, has confirmed that an incident took place in one wing and was brought under control. Emergency services were called to Addiewell Prison in West Lothian after up to 10 prisoners rioted on Monday.
The condition of the injured officer is not known. The 29-year-old officer was taken to St John's Hospital in Livingston at about 1950 GMT.
Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service said they were called to Addiewell just before 1930 GMT on Monday and stood by until 0020 GMT. His condition has not yet been released. The incident was brought under control later on Monday night.
Addiewell, Scotland's newest jail, holds up to 700 inmates and was opened in 2008. A spokesman for private company Kalyx, which manages HMP Addiewell for the Scottish Prison Service, said: "We can confirm there was an incident in one of the wings.
"It was brought under control last night. One prison officer was injured."
