Two young men have died and a third has been seriously injured after a two car crash in Ayrshire. Two teenagers have died and a third was left seriously injured after a two-car crash in Ayrshire on Tuesday night.
The 18-year-old driver of one of the vehicles died at the scene of the crash on the A719 north of Maidens, near Girvan, at 2040 GMT on Tuesday. Police said a Vauxhall Corsa struck an on-coming Skoda Fabia on the A719 north of Maidens, near Girvan, at 2040 GMT.
An 18-year-old passenger was taken to Ayr hospital, where he later died of his injuries. The Corsa driver, 18, died at the scene and an 18-year-old passenger died later in hospital. A second passenger, also 18, suffered serious leg injuries.
A second passenger, also 18, suffered serious leg injuries. The driver of the other car sustained minor injuries. The female driver of the Skoda car and two children travelling in her vehicle escaped injury.
His passengers, a woman and two children, were not hurt. Her female passenger sustained minor injuries.
Police said the crash happened after the Corsa, travelling south near to Jameston Farm, had crossed the centre line of the road and struck the Fabia.
Two 18-year-old passengers from the Corsa were taken to Ayr Hospital, along with a 44-year-old woman who had been the front seat passenger in the Skoda.
Children uninjured
The 18-year old man, the front seat passenger in the Corsa, died a short time later.
The 18-year-old rear seat passenger was said to be in a "stable" condition.
The 44-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the Skoda, was detained for observation.
The 46-year-old driver of the Skoda and two girls, aged 12 and 14, who were rear seat passengers, were not injured.
Police have appealed for witnesses to the crash to contact them. A report will be prepared for the procurator fiscal.
