US President Barack Obama has opened his first State of the Union address, saying America is being tested and "had to answer history's call". US President Barack Obama in his first State of the Union address has said that jobs must be the nation's number one focus.
Mr Obama referred to difficult periods in US history but said the nation prevailed "because we chose to move forward as one nation, and one people". He said he was setting a new goal to double US exports over the next five years "an increase that will support two million jobs in America".
"Again, we are tested. And again, we must answer history's call," he said. Mr Obama opened his address saying the US had to "answer history's call" in testing times.
