More time for 1989 murder police

Police have been given another 24 hours to question a 58-year-old man in connection with the murder of an elderly woman in Belfast 21 years ago.

Detectives from the PSNI's serious crime branch are carrying out new inquiries into the murder of 80-year-old Annabella Symington.

She was found strangled at her home at Willesden Park in the Stranmillis area of south Belfast on 31 October 1989.

The man was arrested in Carrickfergus on Tuesday.

He is being questioned at Antrim police station.
