Police have been given more time to question a man arrested in Birmingham on Tuesday under the Terrorism Act.

The 30-year-old man from the Sparkhill area is accused of possessing material likely to be of use to a terrorist and of distributing terrorist publications.

He was being held after a long, detailed and ongoing inquiry, West Midlands police said.

Searches of his home in Kings Heath have now been completed and officers have five more days to question him.

One other residential property in the same area was also searched.

Det Supt Kenny Bell, head of investigations at West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit, said: "The operation was carried out by unarmed officers in a way intended to cause the minimum amount of disruption for those in the immediate vicinity."

Officers seized computer equipment as part of their investigation.
