The court heard how Javed snapped when Ms Surgontaite, who was the mother of his two-month-old child, criticised him in front of his friends during his birthday party at their flat in Glasgow in May last year.
While a friend waited in a taxi, Javed stabbed Ms Surgontaite in the back before picking up his bags and leaving the house in Clarkston Road.
Your daughter has been left without her mother to bring her up and this had been brought about by your wickedness Temporary judge John Beckett QC
Ms Surgontaite managed to alert a friend, 24-year-old Jolanta Navickaita, who had been asleep upstairs.
She told her that Javed had knifed her in the back.
Ms Surgontaite died from her injuries five days later in hospital.
Throughout his trial Javed denied the murder and claimed he had an alibi, but a jury found him guilty of murder.
Passing sentence, temporary judge John Beckett QC said Javed had stabbed his partner in the back and then left her to die.
"You took the life of a young woman who was the mother of your child, who was only two months old at the time," he told Javed.
"This was a wicked thing to do. Your daughter has been left without her mother to bring her up and this had been brought about by your wickedness."
Judge Beckett recommended that Javed be deported at the end of his prison sentence.
The court heard how the couple's baby was now being cared for by Ms Surgontaite's aunt in Lithuania.
