Celebrity Big Brother through the years
http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/rss/-/1/hi/entertainment/8481444.stm Version 0 of 1. Celebrity Big Brother has become a great way for waning stars to relaunch their careers. For some, appearing on the Channel 4 show has paid off, and for others it proved somewhat less of a success. As the final series draws to an end, here is a selection of the show's key moments over the years. SERIES 1 (2001) Participants: Anthea Turner, Jack Dee, Chris Eubank, Claire Sweeney, Keith Duffy, Vanessa Feltz Winner: Jack Dee Vanessa Feltz was evicted on day four in the first series First evictee: Chris Eubank Length of series: eight days Memorable moments: A stressed Feltz started scrawling on the dining table with chalk, provided for a task, and screamed obscenities when Big Brother called her to the Diary Room. She was evicted from the House on day four. Throughout the series Dee made no secret that he wanted to leave and even escaped from the house for a few hours. He went on to win, but now refuses to allow footage of him in the show to be broadcast. SERIES 2 (2002) Participants: Les Dennis, Melina Messenger, Mark Owen, Sue Perkins, Anne Diamond, Goldie Les Dennis talked to chickens during the second series Winner: Mark Owen First evictee: Goldie Length of series: 10 days Memorable moments: During his appearance on the show, Dennis seemed withdrawn and depressed, taking solace in talking to the chickens in the garden. It was during this period that his marriage to actress Amanda Holden broke down. He has since described his time in the house as "not one of his wisest moves". SERIES 3 (2005) Participants: Bez, Brigitte Nielsen, Caprice Bourret, Germaine Greer, Jackie Stallone, Jeremy Edwards, John McCririck, Kenzie, Lisa I'Anson Winner: Bez First evictee: Jackie Stallone Length of series: 18 days Memorable moments: One of the most surprising housemates to sign up for the series was journalist and outspoken feminist Greer. Jackie Stallone was labelled lazy by some of her housemates in series three On the sixth day she left the house after accusing the show's producers of bullying and disagreeing with her housemates' behaviour towards one another. Stallone's late arrival into the house upset Nielsen, who was once married to her son, Hollywood actor Sylvester Stallone. McCririck also refused to speak for several days as Big Brother would not to give him the Diet Coke he had requested and didn't seem to be able to live without. He also caused uproar with the chauvinistic way he spoke about women, his wife in particular who he calls "Booby". SERIES 4 (2006) Participants: Dennis Rodman, Chantelle Houghton, Faria Alam, George Galloway, Jodie Marsh, Maggot, Michael Barrymore, Pete Burns, Preston, Rula Lenska, Traci Bingham Winner: Chantelle Houghton Chantelle Houghton is now a celebrity in her own right after series four First evictee: Jodie Marsh Length of series: 23 days Memorable moments: This was the first year that a non-famous person was put into the house. As part of a task Houghton managed to convince her fellow housemates that she was a celebrity who sang in a girl band and was allowed to stay. Her flirtation with Preston hit the headlines and he promptly dumped his girlfriend on leaving the house and married Houghton. Galloway pretending to sip milk from Lenska's hands as a cat and wearing a leotard made him a laughing stock and Pete Burns's fur coat caused controversy as he told his housemates it was made from gorilla skin. SERIES 5 (2007) Participants: Carole Malone, Cleo Rocos, Danielle Lloyd, Dirk Benedict, Donny Tourette, Shilpa Shetty, Ian "H" Watkins, Jack Tweed, Jackiey Budden, Jade Goody, Jermaine Jackson, Jo O'Meara, Ken Russell, Leo Sayer Winner: Shilpa Shetty Shilpa Shetty says she forgave the late Jade Goody for her cruel taunts in series five First evictee: Jackiey Budden Length of series: 26 days Memorable moments: This was Channel 4's most controversial series yet after Goody, Lloyd and O'Meara were accused of racist bullying towards Shetty. This sparked widespread anger and demonstrations in India, where the alleged racism was reported on the news. Eventually Goody was asked to leave the house and for the first time ever during a series of Celebrity Big Brother the crowds were kept away over fears of safety. Shetty went on to win the series and Goody, Lloyd and O'Meara issued public apologies about their behaviour. Russell, Tourette and Sayer all walked out of the show too. SERIES 6 (2009) Participants: Ben Adams, Coolio, LaToya Jackson, Lucy Pinder, Michelle Heaton, Mutya Buena, Ulrika Jonsson, Terry Christian, Tina Malone, Tommy Sheridan, Verne Troyer Winner: Ulrika Jonsson First evictee: Lucy Pinder Length of series: 22 days Coolio caused some friction inside the house in series six Memorable moments: This was the first series of Celebrity Big Brother to air since the racism controversy of 2007. Buena left the Big Brother house and was the only person to quit that series. Troyer and Jonsson's cover version of Endless Love as Lionel Richie and Diana Ross was both comical and embarrassing to watch. Ofcom also investigated viewers' complaints made over Coolio's behaviour towards female housemates, although the media regulator rejected it. SERIES 7 (2010) Participants: Alex Reid, Dane Bowers, Heidi Fleiss, Ivana Trump, Jonas Altberg, Katia Ivanova, Lady Sovereign, Nicola Tappenden, Sisqo, Stephanie Beacham, Stephen Baldwin, Vinnie Jones Winner: To be announced First evictee: Katia Ivanova and Heidi Fleiss Length of series: 27 days Memorable moments: The last and final series of the celebrity version of the show was also the longest, with housemates being locked up for 27 days. Some fans wondered why Katia Ivanova had been put inside the house in the final series Producers hoped to cause controversy by placing Katie Price's ex-boyfriend Bowers and her current partner Reid into the house together, but they both seemed to get on. Some fans of the show questioned why Ivanova, known only for dating and dumping Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood, and Fleiss, who went to prison for providing prostitutes to wealthy and famous clients, were allowed to take part in the show. Ivanova struck up a close friendship with Altberg - otherwise know as Basshunter - and they were seen kissing inside the house. However, days later she dumped Altberg, which was watched by millions. Presenter Davina McCall entered the compound for the first time as a housemate for a short time. Dressed as a chicken, housemates were left guessing who the imposter was. |
