A man who carried out an attack with a samurai sword following an argument over a girl at a party in Glasgow has been jailed for six years. Stephen Weir, 21, admitted slashing 27-year-old James McNichol with the weapon leaving him with a 7in scar on his face, in the Castlemilk area in June. A 15-year-old boy, who admitted kicking and punching Mr McNichol was sentenced to four years youth custody. Weir and the teenager were also placed on licence for two years on release. The High Court in Livingston heard how Mr McNichol lost about 60 per cent of the vision in his left eye. 'Sickening kick' Passing sentence, judge Lord Woolman told Weir he had carried out "a sickening and vicious attack". "The CCTV footage reviewed in court was truly shocking," he said. He told the boy: "You administered the sickening kick to his face. You are only 15 but the children's panel said you should be punished in this court. "I have read the very full and thorough social enquiry report. It is clear that you have had a difficult upbringing but at the same time you must take responsibility for your actions." |
