Man dies after fall in Snowdonia Walker killed in Snowdonia fall

A man has died after falling about 40 metres (131 ft) in Snowdonia, say North Wales Police. A walker has died after falling about 700 ft (213m) from near the summit of a Snowdonia peak.
Officers received a report that a man had fallen while walking on Pen yr Ole Wen shortly after 1600 GMT on Friday. Rescuers said the man was walking with another man on Penyrolewen on the Carneddau range in northern Snowdonia when he fell down a snow-filled gully.
The RAF helicopter was called out as well as the Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Team. North Wales Police said they received a report that a man had fallen shortly after 1600 GMT on Friday.
The man was airlifted to Ysbyty Gwynedd hospital in Bangor where he was pronounced dead. Officers say no more details are available at the moment. The RAF helicopter from Valley, on Anglesey, was called out as well as the Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Team.

Crampons
The helicopter flew his companion to the bottom of the mountain.
He was believed to have raised the alarm by mobile phone and had then been advised to stay put and await rescue.
The men were well dressed and wearing crampons.
A 40-knot wind buffeted the Sea King helicopter, which landed on the mountainside to enable mountain rescue team members to carry the man to the aircraft.
