Plane lands on New Jersey highway Plane lands on New Jersey highway
(about 5 hours later)
A small plane has made an emergency landing on a highway in the US state of New Jersey, officials say. A small plane carrying a traffic reporter has made an emergency landing on a highway in New Jersey, in the US.
Neither of the two people on board were injured in the incident on the New Jersey Turnpike, about five miles (8km) east of Philadelphia. The Cessna set down on the New Jersey Turnpike, about five miles (8km) east of Philadelphia, after a low oil pressure indicator came on.
Turnpike Authority spokesman Joe Orlando said the plane was believed to be involved in traffic reports for radio and TV stations. Neither the pilot nor the reporter were injured, officials said.
He expected police to move the plane on to a truck for removal, he said. "The plane landed, he taxied it over to the shoulder. We can't even get motorists to do that when they break down," a highways spokesman said.
Joe Orlando said traffic was backed up for about 1.5 miles (2.4km) in both directions after the early morning incident, mostly by people rubber-necking.
"For the first time in eight years, I can probably say you had a good reason to stop and look," Mr Orlando was quoted as saying by AP news agency.
The plane was loaded onto a truck and taken to a New Jersey Turnpike Authority maintenance yard.
The Federal Aviation Administration is due to conduct an investigation.
