Death after car crashes into sea Man dies as car crashes into sea

A man who was airlifted to hospital after his car came off the road and went into the sea at a causeway in the Highlands has died. Police have named a man who died after his car slid off a causeway in icy conditions and plunged into the sea.
Emergency services were called to the scene on the A838 at Kyle of Tongue in Sutherland after the car was spotted by a passing ambulance crew. A passing ambulance crew spotted David Bowes' car partly submerged in the Kyle of Tongue in Sutherland.
Police said the man was flown to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness. The 46-year-old plumber, from Bettyhill in Sutherland, was airlifted to hospital in Inverness but he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Northern Constabulary said it was not known at this stage what time the accident happened. The A838 was closed and diversions put in place to allow police to investigate the incident.
The section of road has been closed and police have appealed for witnesses. Officers said only one car was involved.

He was flown by air ambulance to hospital, where he was pronounced dead. An Aberdeen Coastguard spokesman said: "A man driving a car slid in icy conditions off the Tongue causeway.
Stornoway Coastguard searched the area to check for any further casualties. "We co-ordinated the rescue effort this morning. He was taken to hospital but pronounced dead on arrival."
