Teen arrested over street clashes Rioters 'are community enemies'
(30 minutes later)
A teenager, arrested after loyalist and nationalist youths clashed in Londonderry at the weekend, has been released pending reports, police said. Trouble at an interface area of the Waterside in Londonderry has been condemned by the city's mayor.
Up to 60 young people were involved in fighting at Bann Drive in Derry's Waterside area on Sunday. It began on Sunday afternoon in Irish Street. Police were attacked with bricks and stones as they tried to keep apart republican and loyalist youths.
A BBC reporter at the scene said about 30 nationalist youths were involved in a stand-off with loyalists from the Irish Street area. Sinn Fein mayor Lynn Fleming criticised those who provoked the rioting.
Police were attacked with bricks and stones at the scene. "They are enemies of this community and if they are not disrupting their own community, they are up trying to disrupt the community in Irish Street."
She added: "We intend to go around some of the people who we recognised and speak to their parents to ask them if they are aware their young people are part of this problem.
"Hopefully that will go some way towards ensuring this trouble is stopped."
