Criminal damage South Yorkshire Police referred the matter to the IPCC on Thursday.
A complaint of assault will now be investigated by the force, overseen by the IPCC. Nicholas Long, IPCC Commissioner for Yorkshire and Humberside, said an independent investigation would be conducted.
