Rugby kit gives team flower power

An amateur rugby league team in West Yorkshire have got in touch with their feminine side with a new floral kit.

The players in the Slaithwaite Saracens decided they wanted "something a bit funky" to set them apart from other teams on the rugby field.

The team went for a dark blue background with pink flowers, teamed with pink and blue striped socks.

The team's coach said the new colour had proved so popular, the team also wore pink shirts while out on the town.

'Quite cool'

"We have good banter in the team and everyone's going out in pink shirts and that round town now," Richie Hawkyard said.

When asked what the Saracens themselves made of the new strip, he said: "A few weren't happy like, but a couple of them are really keen on it."

Centre Michael Bostock explained the team's decision to find their inner fashionista.

"We usually go for the traditional colours of green and gold at home, and red and blue for away," he said.

"We wanted something a bit funky and a bit out there, so a couple of us got together and looked at a few designs. We saw the blue and pink flowers and thought it might be quite funky and cool."
