The pair, who cannot be named for legal reasons, set upon Anthony Ford, 30, as he walked his dog in the Govan area of Glasgow last July. Another teenager, John Gallagher, 17, was found guilty of the reduced charge of culpable homicide. Daryl Barney, 18, was convicted of assault. Judge John Beckett QC deferred sentence on all four until next month. The High Court in Glasgow heard that Gallagher blamed Mr Ford for a previous attack on his father. Mr Ford tried to defend himself with a scaffolding pole during the attack on Harhill Street, but was disarmed and struck with it. He was then repeatedly kicked on the body as he lay on the ground and was hit with metal clamps. Knocked unconscious He was eventually knocked unconscious, but one of his attackers continued to punch him in the face before they fled the scene. Mr Ford was later rushed to the city's Southern General Hospital, but died the following day. Gallagher told the court he had been "angry" that evening when he saw Mr Ford. He said: "I started arguing with him about my dad and what he had done. "He denied it, but that was not the truth. I then threw a bit of wood at him, but it did not connect. "I did not ask any of the others (the accused). I did not know that they were behind me." Gallagher denied hitting Mr Ford with the pole. He said he had followed Mr Ford to "fight him" but refuted claims he had wanted to kill him. |
