Artwork of poet Edward Lear's Dong with the Luminous Nose features on an 80p stamp as part of the Europa 2010 issue. Dr Doolittle's Pushmi-Pullyu, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Rudyard Kipling's How the Elephant Got its Trunk are also featured on stamps. As well as the Europa stamps, Jersey Post has issued a set with UK postage and local stamps bearing Jersey Maps. The maps date from 1685 to modern satellite images. Melanie Gouzanis, of Jersey Post, said: "The First Day cover envelope and Presentation Pack were also inspired by maps on show at the Jersey Museum. "The Map of Jersey by an officer dated 1782, shows the parish outlines and curiously-titled rivers and was made to show the island's defences following the attack by the French and the Battle of Jersey in 1781." |
