Law scoops people's theatre gong

Jude Law and Rachel Weisz have scooped the acting honours at this year's Whatsonstage.com theatre awards, voted for by the public.

Law won for his portrayal of Hamlet, while fellow screen star Weisz captured the vote for playing Blanche DuBois in A Streetcar Named Desire.

The pair, both nominated for the Oliver Awards, already scored success at Critics' Circle ceremony last month.

Wicked was named best West End show by the theatre website's readers.

Sir Patrick Stewart topped the best supporting actor vote for his role in Hamlet, with Miriam Margolyes winning for Endgame.

Hamlet also took the honour for best Shakespearian production.

Rowan Atkinson topped the musical actor vote for his role in Oliver!, while Jodie Prenger - Nancy in the same production - won best supporting actress.

The show also won in the best musical revival category.

Patina Miller, the lead in Sister Act, won the best actress in a musical accolade.

Priscilla Queen of the Desert also won two awards, including best supporting actor in a musical for Oliver Thornton.
