A five-week-old baby girl has been killed in a fire at a house in Bradford, West Yorkshire. A five-week-old baby girl has died and a three-year-old boy seriously injured in a fire at a house in Bradford.
Police said the blaze broke out just before midnight on Friday at the house in Sandford Road, Barkerend. The baby girl died after firefighters carried her out of the blaze at the house in Sandford Road, Barkerend, just before midnight on Friday.
A three-year-old boy was seriously injured and is being treated in the specialist burns unit at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield. The injured boy was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary and later transferred to the specialist burns unit at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield.
The 27-year-old mother suffered minor injuries in the blaze and was treated at Bradford Royal Infirmary. The children's mother managed to escape the blaze but suffered minor injuries.
A spokeswoman for West Yorkshire Police said forensic teams were at the scene investigating the cause of the fire. The 27-year-old was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary for treatment, police said.
Neighbours described how firefighters tried to save the baby
The house was cordoned off on Saturday and forensic teams were at the scene investigating the cause of the fire.
Neighbour Mohammed Khaliq described how he went into the burning house to try and help.
He said: "I heard noises, the mum came out and shouted 'save my baby' and I went inside.
"It was too smokey and (there were) no lights. I couldn't help anything, I tried my best.
"Then the fire brigade came round and asked everyone to go."
Mr Khaliq's daughter, Maneeza Begum, a nurse, also went to help after hearing sirens outside.
She said: "I saw them take out - I didn't know what it was - and when I came near to the garden (I saw) it was a little baby and the fire brigade man was (trying to) resucitate it.
"The mother was there so I calmed her down and brought her to my house. She was really devastated."
