Eight charged over £2m drugs find Eight in court over £2m drug haul

Eight men are to appear in court in Belfast following a large drugs seizure at the weekend. Eight men have been charged at Belfast Magistrates Court in connection with a £2m drugs haul in Northern Ireland and the north of England at the weekend.
They are charged with conspiracy to supply drugs and a variety of money laundering offences. Seven men were charged with conspiring to supply cocaine, amphetamines and herbal cannabis and intent to supply.
Cocaine, speed and herbal cannabis with an estimated value of £2m were found by police in Kilkeel, Belfast and Preston in England on Saturday. The eighth man was charged with possession of a class B drug amphetamines.
About £100,000 in cash was also seized. A women who was being questioned in England has been released on bail.
Five of the men were arrested in Northern Ireland and the three others and the woman in England.

The PSNI said it believed the drugs had been taken from Holland to England and on then to Northern Ireland. They were: Liam Patrick Young, 32, of no fixed abode; Gary Stevenson, 20, of the Hawthorns, Annalong; Barry Kavanagh, 19, of no fixed abode; Keith Laffin, 27, of Ballyveaghmore Road, Newry; Richard Noble, 26, Mirabel Street, Manchester; and Dutch national Steve Mesquita, 27, of no fixed abode.
Francis Christie, 37, from Hollybrook Grove, Newtownabbey, was charged with possession of amphetamines. He was remanded for one week to appear via video link.
Richard Noble was granted bail under a £100,000 surety from his father and condition that he reside with his parents in Bangor.
The others made no bail application and will appear again on 16 March.
