Police were called to the Deysbrook pub in Deysbrook Lane, West Derby, at 1920 GMT on Tuesday. Police are treating the incident as attempted murder. They believe he may have been shot at several times as he stood outside the Deysbrook pub.

The victim remains in a critical condition and police asked for anyone with information to contact them. The victim, described as a "family man", remains in a critical condition and has undergone surgery twice.
'Private funeral'
Det Ch Supt Tony Doherty said: "It is only thanks to the intervention of paramedics and other emergency services at the scene and the doctors at hospital that this man is still alive.
"He remains in a critical condition in hospital and we are doing all we can to trace the offender.
"We are not aware of why he has been targeted in this way.
"He is a family man who had attended a private funeral of a friend earlier that day. We believe the offender left the scene in the direction of nearby houses."
Mr Doherty added that the pub was close to a large supermarket so it was possible shoppers saw or heard something which could help the investigation.
