Dafydd Wyn Bowen died from severe head injuries after the accident at Pengoilan Farm, Bethlehem, Carmarthenshire, on 23 December. The inquest heard that Gareth Bowen was unaware that Dafydd was behind his tractor as he reversed. Recording a verdict of accidental death coroner John Owen said: "Quite clearly no blame is attached to anyone." Coroner's officer Tudor Rees told the inquest that Dafydd's mother Meryl had decided to take her three boys for a walk that day. As they crossed the farm yard, Dafydd ran ahead and she lost sight of him. The next thing she remembered was hearing the reversing beep of her husband Gareth's tractor before the sound of a thud. Neither parent was aware Dafydd was directly behind the tractor when his father reversed. Mr and Mrs Bowen, who were not in court, carried Dafydd from farmyard to the house and rang the emergency services. By then he was not breathing and there was no pulse. A post mortem examination found he suffered severe head injuries. Mr Owen, the Carmarthenshire coroner, commented: "This is one of the most tragic deaths it has been my misfortune to investigate." He passed his deepest sympathy to Dafydd's family and to Dafydd's grandfather who attended the hearing. |
