Police have launched a murder inquiry after a man was stabbed to death and his brother was seriously injured in a disturbance at a flat in Glasgow.

Louis Shields, 46, died at the property in Cambuskenneth Place in the Craigend area of the city on Thursday morning.

His 47-year-old brother Peter Shields was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary, where staff described his condition as "stable".

Detectives are studying CCTV and carrying out door-to-door inquiries.

Officers were called to a report of a disturbance within the flat at about 0015 GMT on Thursday.

Following a post-mortem examination Strathclyde Police said it was treating Mr Shields' death as murder and an incident room has been set up.

Det Insp David Halliday said: "Extensive enquiries are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident, and officers are carrying out door-to-door inquiries and studying CCTV footage in the area to gather any further information on those responsible.

"I would like to appeal to anyone who was in the area of Cambuskenneth Place, Craigend, around the time of the incident and may have witnessed anything suspicious to come forward."
