Wembley match tickets go on sale FA site crashes in Wembley rush
(about 2 hours later)
Tickets for the first football match to be played at the new £757m Wembley Stadium have gone on sale. Demand for tickets for the first competitive match at the new Wembley stadium has caused the Football Association's website to crash.
The fixture will be an under-21 international between England and Italy on 24 March at 1230 GMT. Crowd capacity will be limited to 60,000. Sixty thousand £10 tickets went on sale at 3pm for England's Under 21 match against Italy on March 24.
Tickets for the match cost £10 and were available from 1500 GMT on Monday. It is a test event before a safety certificate can be issued for the FA Cup Final before a 90,000 full house.
The game is one of two "ramp-up" events to enable the 90,000-capacity stadium to test facilities and obtain a safety certificate from Brent borough council. Fans attempting to buy tickets on the FA website were told an error had occurred within the application.
Online booking for the match temporarily closed soon after starting, with a message on the Football Association website saying there was massive interest in tickets. The FA said 10,000 potential ticket-buyers had tried to buy tickets from their website at the same time, leading to temporary problems.
