The chief of Algeria's national police force has been killed in the capital, Algiers, reports say. The chief of Algeria's national police force, Ali Tounsi, has been shot dead in the capital, Algiers, reports say.
According to one report Ali Tounsi was shot dead in his office at the police headquarters by a disgruntled former employee. The shooting took place during a regular morning meeting in the police headquarters in front of a number of witnesses, correspondents say.
The alleged killer was reportedly a fellow police officer.
He then tried to take his own life but was seriously wounded in the attempt and is now under arrest at an Algiers hospital, say news agency reports.
