Afghan suicide blast 'kills four' Nato soldiers die in Afghanistan
(about 7 hours later)
At least four civilians have been killed in a suicide car bomb attack targeting a Nato convoy in southern Afghanistan, say Afghan officials. Nato says four of its troops have been killed in three attacks in Afghanistan.
Nato has not yet commented on the incident near Kandahar city, but the Taliban have claimed responsibility. Two Nato soldiers were killed in western Afghanistan, while another died in a small-arms attack in the south.
The attack comes a day after a roadside bomb killed 11 civilians in neighbouring Helmand province. A fourth was killed in a bombing, also in the south, a statement said. The nationalities of the four soldiers killed have not yet been released.
US and Afghan forces are waging a major offensive against Taliban fighters entrenched there. Earlier, at least four civilians were reported killed in a suicide car bomb attack near Kandahar. Afghan officials say the bomber targeted a Nato convoy.
The attack happened near the airport, an important base for Nato forces battling militants across southern Afghanistan. The Taliban said they carried out the attack near Kandahar.
