Extreme weather is thought to have played a part in both cases, but it is not known whether it was a factor in the latest fatality. I can't say for certain, but it very much sounds that by wearing a life jacket he would have had a better chance of surviving Greg Albrighton, HM Coastguard
Neither Mr Derbyshire nor the latest casualty, both of whom died in rough sea conditions, were wearing lifejackets, according to the coastguard.
Greg Albrighton, sector manager for the North East, said: "He [the Blyth angler] was wearing a good all-weather suit which would protect him from the cold, but a life jacket would have given him a much better chance of getting back to shore.

The man's body was airlifted from the sea due to the amount of rocks in the area. Once located, the man's body was airlifted from the sea rather than being recovered by boat due to the amount of rocks in the area.
Humber Coastguard watch manager Graham Dawson said: "This was a difficult search with a large number of resources working hard to locate the casualty.
"Because the man was wearing dark clothing it was only through an intensive search that he was spotted by the coastguard rescue team.
"We do recommend that anglers wear a lifejacket when they are on, or near the water, and if you are angling at night it is advisable to wear a high visibility jacket."
